Engaging Students: First
In the Nation is an interdisciplinary collaboration between
Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Franklin Pierce University
in Rindge, New Hampshire, focused on educating and engaging students
and the public regarding the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire
Primary during the 2008 presidential election cycle.
2006-07 events included
presidential candidate interviews with Sen. John Edwards (D) of
North Carolina, Sen. Joe Biden (D) of Deleware, Rep. Duncan Hunter
(R) of California, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D) of Ohio and Gov. Mike
Gravel (D) of Alaska; a convocation by Helen Thomas, former White
House Bureau Chief for United Press International; and alumni panels
about media ethics. The Sen. Edwards event has been broadcast on
C-SPAN2 nationally.
All First in the
Nation events were broadcast live between Franklin Pierce University
in New Hampshire and Wartburg College in Iowa. All events were free
and open to the community.
